Kim Yong-man of the Democratic Party, a great-grandson of Baekbeom Kim Gu, filed a complaint with the police today (7th) against Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo, who recently remarked that “there are claims that Kim Gu held Chinese nationality.”

Rep. Kim’s side submitted the complaint to the Yeongdeungpo Police Station around 10 a.m. today, asking them to investigate Minister Kim for defamation of the deceased. The complaint alleges that “Minister Kim is repeatedly spreading incorrect historical facts without any basis” and that he “severely damaged the honor of Kim Gu, independence activists, and their descendants by disseminating false information.”

On the 14th of last month, during a government inquiry, Minister Kim responded to a question about Kim Gu’s nationality during the Japanese colonial period by saying, “There are claims that he held Chinese nationality.” In response, Rep. Kim held a press conference at the National Assembly, stating, “Minister Kim is not qualified to be a minister of Korea, or even a citizen,” and warned, “If there is no proper apology, we will take legal action.”
