Democratic Party: “Focusing on Prosecutorial Reform in September’s National Assembly… Strongly Amending the Three Major Special Prosecutor Bills”

The Democratic Party of Korea, having passed five key bills including the “Yellow Envelope Act,” emphasized that they will continue to push forward with legislative reforms focused on public welfare, building on their legislative achievements in August. Kim Byung-ki, the floor leader, stated at the in-house countermeasures meeting on the 26th that the party will focus on reform issues such as prosecutorial reform and the eradication of fake information in the regular National Assembly session in September.

He also emphasized the need for a stronger and clearer special investigation law, stating that the truth behind the unrest cannot be uncovered if left to the prosecution, which is the subject of reform. He pointed to evidence like the nullification of the detention of Yoon Seok-yeol, the dismissal of charges against Kim Geon-hee, and the indictment of Colonel Park Jeong-hoon on charges of insubordination.

At the meeting, Moon Jin-seok, the deputy floor leader, and Han Jung-ae, the policy committee chairperson, remarked that the Democratic Party had taken responsibility for addressing public welfare issues that the Yoon Seok-yeol government ignored, and expressed hope that the People Power Party would awaken from the politics of vetoing.

Amid the Democratic Party’s prosecutorial reform special committee’s expedited efforts, spokesperson Kim Hyun-jung informed reporters that, while conducting the special committee, there could be various opinions, but there is concern about individual unconfirmed opinions being made public.
