Hajungwoo, the Democratic Party candidate, Minsik Park, the People Power Party candidate, and Donghoon Han, an independent candidate, are running in the Busan Buk-gap by-election for the National Assembly. According to a poll released on the 24th, Hajungwoo of the Democratic Party and Donghoon Han, an independent candidate, are in a tight race with only a 1% point difference in the Busan Buk-gap, considered the hottest battleground for the June 3rd by-election.
In the poll conducted by Gallup Korea at the request of the SegeIlbo on May 21-22, 36% of respondents supported independent candidate Han, while 35% supported Democratic Party candidate Ha. People Power Party candidate Park received 19% support. The ‘none/unknown’ category was at 10%.
In a hypothetical head-to-head match assuming a conservative unification, Ha was at 41% while Han was at 45%, indicating a close race within the margin of error. However, in a face-off between Ha and Park, Ha was ahead with 48% compared to Park’s 36%, which is outside the margin of error with a 12% point difference. When asked about unification, 66% of People Power Party supporters responded in favor.
This survey was conducted using wireless telephone interviews with 502 voters from Busan Buk-gap. The margin of error is ±4.4% points at a 95% confidence level.
Recent polls indicate that Busan Buk-gap is shaping up to solidify a ‘two strong candidates’ scenario with Ha and Han engaged in a close race within the margin of error. In a survey by Channel A and Research & Research conducted on May 17-19 with 500 voters from Busan Buk-gap, independent candidate Han had 34.6% support, Democratic Party candidate Ha had 32.9%, and People Power Party candidate Park had 20.5%. In a survey conducted by Matrix at the request of Chosun Ilbo on May 16-17 with 501 voters from Busan Buk-gap, Democratic Party candidate Ha led with 39%, ahead of independent candidate Han (33%) and People Power Party candidate Park (20%).
