Air Force: “Delayed Reporting Due to Mismanagement of Friendly Fire Situation… Responsible Personnel to be Reprimanded”

The Air Force addressed the criticism of delayed reporting in the process of a fighter jet’s misfire incident, explaining that they recognized the abnormal situation three minutes after the incident at 10:07 but that time was delayed in determining the specific circumstances.

It continued to state that although they recognized the misfire situation of the fighter jet, the overall management of the misfire situation was not properly carried out as they focused on verifying whether the projectile that caused civilian damage was indeed dropped from the fighter jet.

They also mentioned that it was only announced 1 hour and 40 minutes after the incident, upon final confirmation of the MK-82 bomb, but they believe that promptly informing about the abnormal dropping situation as it occurred would have been a more appropriate action.

Furthermore, they said that individuals identified with misconduct in situation judgment or reporting will face disciplinary action according to the law and regulations, and the reporting system will be strengthened.
