Acting President Choi: “North Korean Missiles are a Serious Threat to Security… Firm Response to Provocations”

“This year’s work report must be a total crisis response effort, completely different from normal times”

[Seoul, Yonhap News] Choi Sang-mok, Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, stated on the 7th at a cabinet meeting held at the government complex in Seoul that “our government will firmly respond to North Korea’s provocations based on the solid South Korea-U.S. alliance.”

In his opening remarks at the cabinet meeting, Acting President Choi said, “North Korea’s missile launch is a clear violation of the United Nations Security Council resolutions and poses a serious threat to security on the Korean Peninsula and worldwide.”

He ordered the Ministry of National Defense to renew their organizational spirit and establish an ironclad security posture in preparation for any additional provocations from North Korea.

Choi urged that “this year’s work report should be completely different from routine work reports in terms of urgency, solutions, and speed,” emphasizing that it should be a “total war against crisis,” in line with the extraordinary circumstances.

He also stressed the need to dispel concerns about external credibility and changes in the global trade order through this work report.

Acting President Choi warned that “there is increasing concern that the people’s economy may become even more frozen due to recent political situations,” and urged all ministries to promptly execute budgets for projects necessary for recovering the people’s economy.
