Shin Shows Support for Lee Jae-myung Despite Conservative Discontent

“Lee Jae-myung is practical, a critic of the establishment… will solve issues caused by those in power in the healthcare sector”

Attorney Shin Pyung, who has previously been a mentor to former President Yoon Seok-youl and a vocal supporter of Yoon’s emergency martial law decisions, is now emphasizing the potential of former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung as a presidential candidate. Shin dismisses the ‘anti-Lee Jae-myung’ rhetoric within the conservative circle as mere noise echoing within their own ranks.

In a Facebook post on the 14th, Shin commented, “Many in the conservative camp intensely dislike Lee Jae-myung and claim ‘he should not be president,’ as if their strong voices alone will prevent his election. They ignore how others see him as a ‘sacred leader’ poised to handle tumultuous times.”

Shin is critical of the conservative factions, describing them as divided and more concerned with erasing Yoon Seok-youl’s influence than forming a coherent front. He also remarked on the internal disarray, saying, “Presidential candidates on the conservative side are busy erasing Yoon, while some boast of a confidence rooted in nothing.”

The attorney criticized those who underestimate Lee, writing, “Those who belittle Lee Jae-myung’s rising influence need to recognize any merits he may have.”

Previously, Shin had recounted that Lee, seen as a pragmatic leader by his close associates, was open to a grand coalition government, describing him as someone who can be engaged in dialogue for national interest.

His defense of Lee has sparked criticism from figures within the People Power Party, who question his motives and previous roles as Yoon’s mentor. Critics wonder if Shin is attempting to align politically with both Yoon and Lee.

Shin’s evolving stance displays a shift in his perspective on political leadership, marking him out as a controversial figure within the conservative camp.
