On March 6, the application process begins for the “Youth Culture and Arts Pass,” which offers support of up to 150,000 KRW for young individuals aged 19 (born in 2006) residing in Korea to enjoy performances and exhibitions. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, along with the Korea Arts Council, announced that applications will be accepted through the official website starting at 10 a.m. on the 6th.
This initiative is available to all 2006-born Korean youths living in the country, regardless of income, and provides between 100,000 and 150,000 KRW per individual for viewing performances and exhibitions. The passes are issued on a first-come, first-served basis depending on the number of eligible youths in each of the 17 provinces. The availability of passes may close early depending on issuance status by region.
Once issued, the Youth Culture and Arts Pass can be used immediately to book musicals, classical concerts, and other performances through Interpark and Yes24. The application period is from March 6 to May 31, with the usage valid until December 31 of this year. However, if the pass is not used by the end of June, it will become invalid from July 1.
Eleven national art organizations and performance venues, including the National Theater Company, offer ticket discounts to passholders. Discounted performances include productions like the National Theater Company’s “Full of Ships” and “His Mother,” the National Symphony Orchestra’s “Verdi Requiem” and “Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5,” as well as various performances by the National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts and the National Contemporary Dance Company.
Regional venues also offer a variety of discounts for passholders. The discount rates vary for each performance, and additional benefits will be continuously added. Details on participating organizations and performances will be available on the official website and social networks starting mid-March.
A policy representative from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism expressed hopes for more youth to engage with cultural and artistic activities and emphasized continued support for a happier and more enriching life through culture and arts.
