A multilingual video introducing Yoon Dong-ju, a resistive poet from the Japanese colonial era, who marks his 80th anniversary this year, has been produced, Professor Seo Kyung-duk from Sungshin Women’s University announced on the 28th. This video was made in advance of the March 1st Movement anniversary, with actor Kim Nam-gil narrating.
Professor Seo released the 5-minute video in both Korean (https://youtu.be/1gnaBE5wcrQ) and English (https://youtu.be/hWTsf0DMFKQ) versions online.
According to Professor Seo’s social network service (SNS), this video is a part of KB Kookmin Bank’s “Korea Survived” campaign.
The video explores Yoon Dong-ju’s life and the various meanings embedded in his poetry. The appearance of Yoon Dong-ju recreated using generative artificial intelligence (AI) also attracted attention.
Professor Seo stated, “Re-highlighting independence activists who are gradually being forgotten by the public and widely informing people about their lives through videos are the most important tasks our generation must undertake today.” He also mentioned, “The video is being disseminated through various SNS platforms, including YouTube, and has been shared with major Korean and student communities worldwide.”
