Wind Chill Makes It Feel Colder, On the 19th, the Gangwon region is expected to experience a severe cold wave with morning lows plunging to -13 degrees Celsius. A cold wave warning has been issued for mountainous areas in the province, including Pyeongchang, at 9 PM on the 18th. A cold wave advisory is in effect for 9 cities and counties, including Cheorwon, Hwacheon, Yanggu, and Inje, in the northern Yeongseo region of the province.
On the morning of the 19th, temperatures in Pyeongchang, Cheorwon, and Yanggu will drop to -13 degrees Celsius, with Chuncheon experiencing -11 degrees, Wonju -8 degrees, and Gangneung -5 degrees, indicating intense cold. The highest daytime temperatures in Taebaek, Jeongseon, and Pyeongchang will range from -2 degrees to 1 degree Celsius, remaining cold throughout the day. In Chuncheon, Wonju, and Gangneung, temperatures will hover between 2 to 4 degrees Celsius.
The Gangwon Regional Meteorological Administration stated, “The continuous influx of cold air from the northwest, coupled with strong winds, will make the wind chill lower than the actual temperature,” advising that “in areas under cold wave alerts, outdoor activities should be minimized, and special attention should be paid to keeping the elderly and children warm.”
