The movie ‘6,000 Won Discount Coupon’ will distribute an additional 1.88 million vouchers on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, along with the Korean Film Council, announced on September 3rd that they will redistribute approximately 1.88 million remaining movie ticket discount vouchers worth 6,000 KRW starting from 10 AM on the 8th. This initiative is part of efforts to stimulate the domestic economy and revitalize the film industry. Earlier, the ministry had secured a supplementary budget of 27.1 billion KRW and distributed 4.5 million discount vouchers since July 25th.

This redistribution targets the unused discount vouchers as of September 2nd. The vouchers can be used at major multiplex theaters such as CGV, Lotte Cinema, Megabox, and CineQ starting from the specified time. They are also available at various theaters like independent/art film theaters, small theaters, and silver cinemas.

To enhance the usage rate in the second distribution, the vouchers will be available on a first-come, first-served basis upon payment. Each theater will automatically provide two vouchers per member in their online coupon section, and these will be used during transactions. Once a theater’s allocation is exhausted, the discounts will end, and any unused vouchers in members’ coupon sections will expire.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated that during the first distribution period from July 25th to September 2nd, the average daily number of moviegoers was about 435,000, which is approximately 1.8 times higher compared to the daily average from January 1st to July 24th. The vouchers have contributed to increasing public interest in films, and the ministry is committed to keeping the recovery momentum of the Korean film industry alive.
