The ‘Korean Picture Book Awards of the Year’ grand prizes have been awarded to “Dots, Lines, and Birds” by Jo Oh (Changbi) and “Oh, Stylish Ones!” by Kim Yoo-dae (Story Flower). The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, along with the Publication Industry Promotion Agency of Korea, announced that they have selected nine winning works for the ‘2025 Korean Picture Book Awards’, and the award ceremony will be held today (10th) at 2 PM.
In the fiction category, the grand prize goes to “Dots, Lines, and Birds” by Jo Oh, while in the nonfiction category, the grand prize goes to “Oh, Stylish Ones!” by Kim Yoo-dae. “Dots, Lines, and Birds” was praised for its metaphorical themes expressed through short texts and beautiful illustrations, contrasting the impact of human civilization and the destruction of nature, resonating with readers. “Oh, Stylish Ones!” was recognized for kindly and meticulously conveying information about beetles, showing new possibilities in scientific informational books.
Special awards were given to “Kim Goon Obsessed with Flowers” (Kim Dong-sung, Bori Publishing), “When You Touch an Elephant” (Um Jeong-soon, Our School), “Memories of Buildings” (Choi Kyung-sik, Osori, Hong Ji-hye, Four Seasons Publishing), “Friends of Gyeongbokgung Palace” (Jo Soo-jin, Eoheung Project), “The Boy in the Bronze Helmet” (So Yoon-gyeong, Bombyeok Publishing), and “Cheers” (Kong Eun-hye, MaumMoja).
The Newcomer Award went to “Come In” by Min Byeong-kwon (Gilbut Children).
