This summer’s heat wave has arrived early and is showing its fierce strength.

At 10 AM today (7th), the first heat wave warning of the year was issued for Seoul.

It arrived 18 days earlier than last year.

A heat wave warning is issued when the maximum perceived temperature is expected to exceed 35 degrees Celsius for more than two days.

With heat wave advisories issued across most regions, the capital area, Chungcheong, and southern regions under a heat wave warning will remain sweltering with perceived temperatures over 35 degrees.

In particular, tomorrow (8th), the daytime temperature in Seoul is expected to rise to 36 degrees, marking the highest temperature of the year so far.

Temperatures will also rise significantly in western regions like Daejeon at 36 degrees and Jeonju at 35 degrees, due to the inflow of eastern winds.

[Choi Yoon-mi / Korea Meteorological Administration Forecast Analyst] “The air, which has become dry and crosses the Taebaek Mountains, will move westward along the heated ground, getting even warmer. Therefore, temperatures will rise higher, especially in western regions, further intensifying the heat.”

This week, sporadic showers are expected in unstable atmospheric conditions across parts of the inland.

Until the evening, showers of 5 to 40 mm are expected in eastern Gyeonggi, Chungbuk, Honam, and Gyeongbuk, and 5 to 50 mm in inland and mountainous regions of Gangwon.

For the time being, tropical nights with minimum nighttime temperatures above 25 degrees are likely to continue.

The Korea Meteorological Administration has urged people to take special care in managing their health, considering the intense heat wave expected this week and the risk of heat-related illnesses.
