Korean Craftsmanship Embodying Beauty Seeks Argentina

[Seoul=Newsis] A display showcasing the value and beauty of Korean intangible heritage will be held in Argentina.

From the 21st to the 30th (local time), the National Heritage Administration will present the exhibition ‘Transcendence; Connecting Spaces Beyond Life and Time’ at the Korean Cultural Center in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

This exhibition is part of the ‘Korean Intangible Heritage Week,’ now in its 10th year. Through this initiative, the National Heritage Administration collaborates annually with overseas public institutions to promote various projects such as experiential education and exhibitions of traditional crafts.

The National Heritage Administration stated, “Argentina has demonstrated continuous interest in Korean culture, evident in the establishment of ‘Kimchi Day’ on November 22 every year at the government level, making this collaboration particularly meaningful.”

The exhibition will be held in a modern reinterpretation of traditional Korean spaces like sarangchae, anchae, and numaru.

A total of 148 pieces will be on display, including traditional crafts by holders of 21 national intangible heritage items, modern crafts by those who have mastered the skills, and works from media art artists.

In the sarangchae, 87 items are exhibited, including a penholder and paperweight from a metal inlay craftsman and a brush holder from a woodcraft artisan. In the anchae, 33 items are displayed, such as a traditional wedding bojagi by a traditional sewing artisan, a jade-scented norigae by a knotting craft artisan, and a bracket from a woodcraft instructor.

In the numaru, 28 pieces are showcased, including a sanjo geomungo by a traditional instrument craftsman and a horn bow frame made with the horns of buffalo and tendons from cows by a bow artisan.

The exhibition will run on weekdays from 9 AM to 5 PM and on Saturdays from 12:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

The exhibition is open to the public free of charge.
