K-content industry reaches all-time high with 157 trillion won in sales and 14.1 billion dollars in exports.

[Seoul=Newsis] Reporter Kim Joo-hee: “In 2024, the domestic content industry exceeded sales of 157 trillion won and exports of 14 billion dollars, marking the highest performance in history.”

On the 27th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism analyzed and announced the key results of the ‘2025 Content Industry Survey (based on 2024)’ targeting businesses in 11 fields of the domestic content industry, including publishing, animation, broadcasting, and advertising.

According to the survey results, the total sales revenue of the domestic content industry in 2024 was 157.4021 trillion won, a 2.1% increase from the previous year’s 154.1785 trillion won.

In terms of sales revenue, the broadcast and video industry was the largest at 24.9943 trillion won (15.9% of the total), followed by the knowledge information industry (24.6991 trillion won, 15.7%) and the publishing industry (24.2238 trillion won, 15.4%).

The export amount for the content industry reached an all-time high of 14.07543 billion dollars, a 5.5% increase year-on-year. During the same period, imports amounted to 915.56 million dollars, resulting in a trade surplus of 13.15987 billion dollars. Particularly, all 11 industry fields surveyed had exports exceeding imports, proving the overall global competitiveness of K-Content.

The growth in ‘K-Content’ exports was led by the gaming industry. The gaming industry accounted for 60.4% of the total exports, with 8.5347 billion dollars. The music industry (1.8145 billion dollars) and broadcast & video industry (1.25718 billion dollars) also recorded high export performances.

The number of businesses and employees also grew together.

In 2024, the number of content industry businesses rose by 2.4% to 120,875, and the total number of employees increased by 3.4% to 688,121, indicating a contribution to stable job creation.

Im Sung-hwan, the Cultural Industry Policy Officer at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, “Despite challenging external economic conditions, the increase in sales and exports of our content industry once again proves the strength and competitiveness of ‘K-Content.’ The Ministry will continue to enhance innovative policy support and actively support entry into overseas markets so that the content industry can establish itself as a core growth engine of the Korean economy.”
