“Hot Place” National Museum of Korea Sees a Surge in Visitors… Begins Improving Viewing Environment

Increased attendance at the National Museum of Korea, with visitor numbers approaching 700,000 last month, has prompted the museum to enhance its visitor environment and plan new constructions, including a children’s museum. According to the museum, 694,552 people visited between July 1 and July 30, more than doubling the figures from the same period last year. The cumulative number of visitors by the end of July reached 3,410,875, a 72% increase from the previous year.

The surge in visitors is attributed to the popularity of K-content like “K-pop Demon Hunters” and the peak summer vacation season. In response, Museum Director Yoo Hong-jun expressed gratitude for the public’s keen interest and committed to improving the visitor experience and safety.

Traffic congestion and parking issues due to the increased number of vehicles are being addressed by expanding parking guidance staff and installing signboards to encourage the use of public transportation. During a press conference on July 24, Director Yoo advised visiting the museum during weekdays or Wednesday night openings.

Inside the exhibition halls, crowding remains a challenge, prompting the installation of guidelines and additional security staff. Temporary water dispensers have also been set up to improve visitor convenience. The museum is pursuing long-term solutions, including the construction of a children’s museum on-site and initiating a study to enhance the visitor experience. These plans are being prepared for inclusion in the 2026 budget.
