“Hangar Unveils ‘The New Audi A5’… Embodying the Essence of Germany [Report]”

**New PPC Platform for Internal Combustion Engines and PHEVs Applied, Starting at 57.89 Million Won**

“A thunderous sound erupted as tires slipped in a corner of the area where a helicopter landing pad once stood. The ‘New Audi A5,’ redesigned with the newly developed PPC platform by Audi Germany for internal combustion engine and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models, was running on test roads,” the article states.

On May 15, Audi Korea held a ‘New Audi A5 Preview’ media event at Aerospace in Daegot-myeon, Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi-do, unveiling the ‘New Audi A5′ imported directly from Germany before its official release. Customer events will run from the 16th to the 18th.

The New A5 is the first sedan model to incorporate Audi’s newly developed PPC platform for internal combustion and PHEV engines, largely continuing the legacy of the A4, one of Audi’s flagship models.

The New A5’s length has increased by 67mm to 4,829mm compared to the A4. The width has widened by 13mm, the height has increased by 16mm, and the wheelbase has extended by 80mm to 2,900mm compared to the A4. This overall size increase results in significantly more interior space.

Steve Chloi, President of Audi Korea, highlighted at the event that the company showed an inspiring start with an 85% growth in the first quarter compared to the previous year, attributing it to stable momentum. He also announced that 2023 would be the year with the most new car launches in Audi Korea’s history, with the first being the A5.

He added, “The A5 enhances efficiency and driving performance, and with a wider body and luxurious interior, it confidently combines sporty and elegant premium features as a midsize sedan. Audi Korea is committed to solid preparation to deepen brand experience and enhance customer satisfaction alongside diverse new car launches.”

The New A5 features Audi’s first mild hybrid (MHEV) system, upgraded from the existing 48V hybrid system. It significantly reduces the typical vibration and low-speed discomfort of diesel engines.

Youngjun Park, Marketing Executive at Audi Korea, explained that the MHEV Plus offers improved ride comfort and fuel efficiency, which can be a strong advantage for those choosing the TDI model.

All Audi A5 lineups come standard with sports seats, heated seats for all passengers, ventilated front seats, double-glazed front windows, electric steering wheel columns, and a switchable panoramic roof.

Scheduled for domestic release later this year, the New A5 includes seven variants: the 40 TFSI Quattro Advanced, 40 TFSI Quattro S-Line, 40 TFSI Quattro S-Line Black Edition, 45 TFSI Quattro S-Line, 40 TDI Advanced, 40 TDI Quattro S-Line, and the S5.

Prices start at 57.89 million won for the 40 TFSI Quattro, 61.82 million won for the 40 TDI Quattro, 68.69 million won for the 45 TFSI Quattro, and 83.42 million won for the S5. Despite significant enhancements to standard options, the models are priced reasonably, reflecting customer needs and technological advancement, according to Park.

From May 16 to 18, the event offered a chance to experience the A5 and S5 cars’ performance and USPs ahead of their release through a multi-ground course test drive and a Q6 e-tron normal road driving program. Media participants were provided an opportunity on May 15 to experience the New A5’s performance firsthand.

Audi Korea conducted a gymkhana experience to demonstrate the New A5’s capabilities, where vehicles navigated a course on wet roads due to morning rain without any skidding.

Chloi stated that Audi is carefully balancing the pinnacle of internal combustion engine technology with the transition to electrification, preparing for the future. He expressed the belief that cars have evolved beyond mere transportation to represent lifestyle expressions.

Audi Korea has sold 2,846 units from January to April this year, up 52.19% from 1,870 units last year, according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA). Last year, Audi Korea sold 9,304 units.
