Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 3rd that it is launching a demand-responsive transport system called ‘BulleoBoryeong’ in Boryeong, Chungcheongnam-do, which has a large elderly population. Demand-responsive transport is a service where users can call a vehicle from anywhere within the service area, and the bus operates in real-time along the optimal route to pick up and drop off passengers at their desired locations.
Users can request a demand-responsive bus through a mobile app or by phone call. To maximize passenger convenience, Hyundai Motor Company plans to additionally install kiosk-type call buttons at major gathering points to make it easier to request a bus.
Hyundai Motor Company expects that demand-responsive transport will improve accessibility for residents in rural areas and enhance the efficiency of public transportation by gathering passengers at intermediate points and transporting them to urban areas, thus addressing the transportation issues faced by local residents.
The platform underpinning BulleoBoryeong, Shucle, is an AI-based mobility service that Hyundai Motor Company has been operating since 2021. They operate 268 demand-responsive service vehicles in 46 service areas across 21 municipalities in South Korea, and the cumulative number of passengers has surpassed 7 million.
