[Sports Chosun Reporter Yoon Ah Lee] Yulhee revealed the reason she started a custody and alimony lawsuit a year after her divorce from FT Island’s Choi Min-hwan.
On the TV Chosun show “Now Alone” broadcasted on the 5th, Yulhee appeared and explained why she suddenly exposed Choi Min-hwan’s fault on her YouTube channel and why she decided to proceed with a lawsuit afterward.
Yulhee shared, “A year before the divorce, there was a fault on the other party’s part, and I believed having children would help us overcome it. But I felt we couldn’t, and the rift between us was deep. We decided to divorce for each other’s sake.” She expressed her deep concern about the children afterward, saying, “Due to the economic situations of both my family and in-laws, I handed over custody to my husband.” However, after the divorce, she received numerous hate comments for leaving behind her three young children.
The purpose of her appearance on “Now Alone,” she noted, was to clarify the public perception of her as a mother, which was vastly different from her reality. “I’ve never failed in my responsibilities as a mother,” she emphasized. Regarding the other party’s fault, she expressed her reluctance to disclose, saying, “I’ve never wanted to talk about it, especially not to reveal it.”
Yulhee explained that after agreeing to divorce, she accepted zero alimony and zero property division, saying, “After that year of immense hardship due to the other party’s fault, I had no room for rational thinking. I was too exhausted and felt overwhelmed to challenge it.”
She accepted Choi Min-hwan’s suggestion for an uncontested divorce because she had no strength left for a legal battle. “As soon as Choi Min-hwan suggested the divorce, we went to court within three days,” she said.
Yulhee has resolved to live proudly for her children, stating, “I aim to live a life I am proud of as a mother, and I will strive to be alongside my kids.”
A lawyer advised her, saying, “If you divorced in December 2023, it’s been less than a year. You can file for alimony within three years after divorce and property division within two years. Post-divorce consequences last around three years. You have three kids and lived together for five years; you needed proper closure for that period.”
When discussing the chances of winning custody, the lawyer highlighted the importance of examining Yulhee’s stable residence and support system. “The economic situation of the custodian and the other parent’s child support will all be evaluated by the court,” the lawyer remarked, although it won’t be easy, encouraging her to file for a custody change.
Yulhee expressed her determination, saying, “I want to try to make things right, even if I don’t want a fight. I didn’t even attempt it a year ago. Even if it’s a lengthy battle, I want to bring my children back.”
Previously, Yulhee had released an audio recording indicating Choi Min-hwan’s attendance at adult entertainment establishments, shifting public opinion. With the revelation of Choi Min-hwan’s fault as a possible reason behind their divorce, his broadcasting and performance activities have been halted, and he is currently facing dismissal from the FT Island team.
