[Sports Chosun Reporter Lee Woo-joo] Theater actress Yoon Seok-hwa passed away after battling a brain tumor. She was 69 years old.
Yoon Seok-hwa passed away at around 9:50 a.m. on the 19th, with her family by her side at the hospital.
Previously, there was a false report about Yoon Seok-hwa’s passing. The Korean Theater Actors Association issued a correction press release, stating, “We deeply apologize for causing confusion and for giving inaccurate information without proper fact-checking. We are sorry to the bereaved family and to fans who cherished the actress.”
Born in 1956, Yoon Seok-hwa debuted in the 1975 play ‘Sweet Taste’ and became a prominent female actress representing the theater scene alongside seniors Son Sook and Park Jeong-ja, appearing in works like ‘Agnes of God’ and ‘Hamlet.’
In addition to the theater stage, she left her mark with musicals like ‘Guys and Dolls’ and ‘The Last Empress,’ and actively participated in various genres of projects, including the drama ‘The Miracle We Met.’
However, after collapsing in July 2022 following the play ‘Hamlet,’ she had been battling a brain tumor. In August of the following year, she made a special appearance in the play ‘Toccata’ to greet audiences before focusing on her treatment. This brief five-minute encounter with the audience became Yoon Seok-hwa’s last stage appearance.
Later, in 2023, she appeared on Channel A’s ‘News A,’ where she shared, “At first, I underwent targeted radiation therapy, but my weight dropped to 36 kg. I wanted to live true to myself, even if it was just for a week.” She decided to forego chemotherapy and focused on natural therapy but unfortunately did not recover.
