“Will it become the next ‘Squid Game’?”… ‘Critical Trauma Center’ hits big, ranks #1 in buzz once again

[Sports Chosun Reporter Jo Ji-young] The Netflix original series “Trauma Center” (written by Choi Tae-gang, directed by Lee Do-yoon) has become a sensation, establishing itself as the “second Squid Game.”

On the 4th, Kino Lights, which releases the weekly integrated content ranking and OTT service popularity ranking, announced that “Trauma Center” achieved the top spot for the first time since its release in the first week of February.

Released on January 24 targeting the Lunar New Year holidays, “Trauma Center” tells the exhilarating story of a genius surgeon, Baek Kang-hyeok, former war zone surgeon, who joins an ineffective trauma team to revive it. Based on a popular webtoon known for its exciting and clever storyline, the series is directed by Lee Do-yoon, who directed the film “Good Friends” (2014), and written by Choi Tae-gang of “Adamas,” enhancing its quality. Additionally, Ju Ji-hoon plays the genius doctor Baek Kang-hyeok, showcasing his uncompromising, bulldozer-like performance, establishing yet another iconic role in his career.

Moreover, according to the K-Content online competitiveness analysis institution, Good Data Corporation, “Trauma Center” topped the TV-OTT drama popularity survey in the 5th week of January this year.

Seeing a 138.7% increase in popularity, “Trauma Center” rose to the top just two weeks after its release, becoming more than 2.5 times more talked about than the second-ranking “Squid Game” (written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk) Season 2. “Trauma Center” ranked first in VON (Voice of Netizen), video, and SNS categories among the four components of popularity, excluding news.

In the drama actor popularity category, Ju Ji-hoon took first place, with Choo Young-woo, who played Baek Kang-hyeok’s first disciple Yang Jae-won, in fourth place, Ha Young, who played the five-year veteran nurse Cheon Jang-mi, in eleventh, and Yoon Kyung-ho, who played the anal surgery department head Han Yoo-rim, in twelfth, proving their popularity.

Won Soon-woo, Data PD of Good Data Corporation, commented on the analysis of netizens’ reactions to “Trauma Center,” highlighting that “the storyline and the characters deliver a cheerful and refreshing feeling, and Yoon Kyung-ho’s comedic performance as the anal surgery department head is also notably standing out.”
