The first anniversary of the late Oh Yoon-ah… Update on the weathercaster involved in “allegations of misconduct” has been reported.

In May, the Ministry of Employment and Labor concluded a special labor inspection on MBC, revealing that there was bullying within the organization. However, they stated that because they were not recognized as employees under the Labor Standards Act, workplace harassment regulations did not apply. MBC also established an investigative committee but announced the renewal of contracts with meteorologists Ga-young Kim, Ah-ri Choi, and Hyun-seung Lee, excluding person A, who was known to lead the bullying.

The late Anna Oh unexpectedly passed away on September 15 last year. The news of her death was revealed three months later in December, and a document amounting to 17 pages of manuscript paper detailing the bullying by her MBC colleague meteorologists was made public, causing a stir.

According to parts of the disclosed document, senior meteorologists of the late Anna Oh created a group chat room where they continuously criticized her. It is reported that the chat room included comments such as “(Anna Oh) is completely crazy,” “She smells,” “Let’s not regard her as our junior,” and “She’s playing the victim card.”

Notably, as it became known that MBC’s leading meteorologists, including Ga-young Kim, Ah-ri Choi, Hyun-seung Lee, and Ha-myung Park, participated in the chat room, calls for their removal intensified. However, MBC has determined that there are no grounds to see them as perpetrators in this case.

Despite this, the public’s view of them remains cold. The three, who recently renewed their contracts with MBC, continue to appear on broadcasts. Kim Ga-young has stepped down from her fixed appearances on SBS’s entertainment program ‘Kick a Goal,’ MBC FM ‘Good Morning FM This is Tei,’ but has faced criticism for her appearances as a meteorologist. Meanwhile, Ah-ri Choi is currently active as a meteorologist on MBC’s flagship news program ‘News Desk.’

Meanwhile, the trial date for a damages lawsuit against person A, who is believed to have led the bullying, has been postponed twice. According to the legal community, the court accepted a date change request submitted by A’s side, moving the trial from the original September 23 to October 14 at 10:30 am. Currently, A maintains that “there was no workplace bullying against the deceased” and that “claiming that A’s actions led to the deceased’s death is misrepresenting the facts.”

Prior to Anna Oh’s first anniversary on the 8th, her mother began a hunger strike. Her mother, Jang Yeon-mi, declared in front of MBC’s Sangam-dong building in Mapo-gu, Seoul, “In memory of my pitifully deceased child, I am commencing a hunger strike,” urging, “Please work together to prevent such tragedies from happening again at MBC.”

Her elder brother also expressed on his account, “May the truth be revealed so that (Anna Oh’s) death is not in vain and non-regular workers in the broadcasting media sector are no longer tormented.”

A cultural event is scheduled to commemorate Anna Oh’s first anniversary in front of the MBC hunger strike site today (15th) at 7 p.m.
