, There is speculation about MBC announcer Kim Dae-ho’s 2024 Paris Olympic coverage. Initially, Kim Dae-ho was supposed to cover the match of women’s badminton singles gold medalist An Seyoung, but criticism arose that the coverage was not smooth. In the final match when An Seyoung’s gold medal was on the line, former MBC announcer Kim Sung-joo stepped in instead. The evaluation is that his success in entertainment did not transfer to sports.

Kim Dae-ho only covered two out of the five matches that An Seyoung played in this Olympics. Even those were not the highly anticipated semifinals or finals but group stage matches held on July 28 and August 1. The quarterfinals and semifinals held on the 3rd and 4th were covered by MBC announcer Kim Na-jin, and Kim Sung-joo was enlisted for the final match on the 5th. In essence, Kim Dae-ho’s proper performance in this Olympics was not observed.

Regarding this, MBC explained, “We select casters based on the on-site situation. It’s not that one caster can cover all matches; they may need rest or have other schedules.” However, there is speculation that this was a measure taken in response to the criticisms of the coverage. Viewers criticized Kim Dae-ho for delivering incorrect information or disrupting the flow of the match due to unsmooth progress. Many pointed out his lack of expertise in sports terms as he mistakenly referred to An Seyoung advancing to the quarterfinals instead of the round of 16 and repeatedly using only a few terms like clear and smash without full understanding of technical terms.
