“Kwak Sun-hee, who came out, announces marriage to same-sex partner: ‘Wedding vows in the U.S. in November, currently living together.'”

[Sports Chosun, Reporter Kim So-hee] Kwak Sun-hee, who appeared in ‘Steel Troop W’, honestly shared her plans to marry her partner.

On the 26th, a video titled “Yanggi Special! Chief of Yanggi and his ordinary girlfriend” was uploaded to the YouTube channel ‘Live: Women Preferred’. The video featured Kwak Sun-hee with her ordinary girlfriend, discussing various topics from their first meeting to their dating journey, sexual identity, and even marriage plans.

Kwak Sun-hee introduced herself as a “former first lieutenant of the 53rd Infantry Division” and mentioned she is currently working as a model and marathoner. Her girlfriend introduced herself as a “30-year-old working at an F&B company in Seoul.”

Kwak clarified, “Many people are curious about who made the first move during our first meeting and confession. It seems that people find the concept of ‘natural dating’ quite intriguing.”

Their relationship began over ‘bread.’ Kwak reflected, “I’m very fond of bread and often visited a bakery, but due to a busy schedule, I hadn’t gone for a while. Upon returning, my girlfriend was at the counter. Though she was wearing a mask, she kept smiling at me. At first, I wondered if something was on my face, but it turns out she recognized me from ‘Steel Troop.'”

She continued, “She had such a beautiful smile, and on my second visit, I was captivated by her as she made coffee — her tidy hairstyle, shoulder line, and apron were unforgettable. When leaving the bakery, I flirted by saying, ‘DM me, sister.'”

The girlfriend initially felt confused, unsure if Kwak was visiting for the bread or because she was interested in her. She shared, “I was skeptical at first, wondering, ‘What does this person want from me?’ but eventually opened my heart due to Kwak Sun-hee’s continuous, sincere gestures.”

During a Q&A session with fans, one viewer asked, “When did you realize your sexual identity? Were you happy surrounded by hot girls on ‘Steel Troop W’?” To this, Kwak Sun-hee clarified, “I did not join ‘Steel Troop W’ to meet women.”

She elaborated, “Until last year’s shoot and broadcast, I thought I was heterosexual. I participated as a soldier, not to meet women. Please don’t misunderstand.”

The girlfriend also shared, “I asked Sun-hee if she liked women, and she replied, ‘I haven’t experienced it before, so I don’t know, but I think I like you.’ Though I felt some distance because she was a public figure, I now feel proud to be the woman chosen by Sun-hee.”

The couple, who are currently living together, also revealed their marriage plans. Kwak Sun-hee said, “Though I tried to register us as partners during our residency move, the district office told us registration wasn’t possible because we’re both women, so we’re registered as cohabitants.”

She added, “I’ll be heading to New York in November to participate in the New York Marathon with my girlfriend accompanying me. If we find a place where we can make a marital commitment, we’ll do so. We also plan to have a wedding photoshoot in Jeju Island late November.”

Addressing concerns from friends, Kwak shared, “Friends were worried, saying ‘Isn’t it too soon to be thinking about marriage?’ ‘Are you ready yet?’ However, there are many male-female couples in Korea who get married after 3 or 6 months, isn’t it the same for us?”

She concluded, “I didn’t think of marriage before, but meeting my girlfriend made me naturally consider it. I want to live together forever and even think about having kids that resemble us. Seeing ourselves in bridal gowns and tuxedos seems natural, which feels like genuinely wanting to marry.”

Kwak Sun-hee appeared as the Army Team Leader in ‘Steel Troop W,’ which concluded last December. As a former first lieutenant of the 53rd Infantry Division, she is now a model and marathoner.
