“Kim Yoon-ah with ‘neurological paralysis’, looking very thin… Doing ballet for survival”

[Sports Chosun, reporter Kim Sohee] Younha Kim, the vocalist of Jaurim who suffers from congenital immunodeficiency disorder, has shared an update.

On the 17th, Younha Kim posted a photo on her account with the caption “survival ballet.”

In the photo, Younha Kim is taking a mirror selfie in a ballet studio, wearing a cobalt blue ballet outfit with neatly braided hair, exuding an elegant yet graceful ambiance. Her slender body, sculpted through ballet, is admirable.

Younha Kim has previously revealed her battle with illness through various broadcasts and lectures. In a YouTube channel ‘Sebasi Lecture’ last year, she disclosed, “After working on Jaurim’s 8th album in 2011, I experienced neurological paralysis due to decreased immunity. I am a congenital immunodeficiency patient and still receive monthly treatments.”

At that time, she explained that she experienced serious issues with several functions, including smell, taste, hearing, pain sensation, temperature sensation, upper body muscles, and the vagus nerve, with some aftereffects remaining to this day. She also mentioned, “There is a slight speech impairment, but I suppress it with strength,” and added, “I carry out my work with the mindset that each moment could be my last.”

Furthermore, she appeared on SBS’s ‘Same Bed, Different Dreams 2: You Are My Destiny’ last year and revealed, “I have to receive IVIG injections monthly due to low immunoglobulin levels, borrowing antibodies from healthy people,” emphasizing the importance of meticulous self-care. She conveyed, “Lack of sleep or overworking is fatal,” and noted that “neurological paralysis actually recurred after excessive workload.”

Meanwhile, Younha Kim married dentist Hyungkyu Kim in 2006, and they have one son. Despite her battle with illness, her dedication to music and art continues to gain support from fans.
