Kim Sung-joo parts ways with Kim Yong-man, Ahn Jung-hwan, and Jung Hyung-don… Exclusive contract with MCP ends.

Kim Sung-joo, a broadcaster and former announcer, has parted ways with his agency, Mungchin Project (MCP). According to a report from Star News on the 5th, Kim Sung-joo’s exclusive contract with MCP expired at the end of last month. After discussions, both Kim Sung-joo and MCP decided not to renew the contract.

Mungchin Project is a content planning company established in November 2021 by broadcasters Kim Yong-man, Kim Sung-joo, Jung Hyung-don, and Ahn Jung-hwan, who came together with a shared vision. These four have built deep trust through collaborating on several entertainment programs starting with “Carefree Travelers” in 2016, as well as “All the Butlers” and “Cool Kiz on the Block” series. The company’s name, Mungchin Project, is inspired by the programs they participated in.

Kim Sung-joo, alongside Jun Hyun-moo, is one of the leading “announcers-turned-entertainers” in the South Korean entertainment industry. He joined MBC as a public announcer in 2000 and became a prominent announcer before leaving MBC in 2007 to become a freelancer. He has since earned a reputation as a “trustworthy MC” by excelling in various genres of entertainment programs.

Notably, he received praise for his smooth hosting skills and quick thinking in competition programs like “Superstar K,” “Miss Trot,” and “Mr. Trot.” He remains active in various entertainment shows such as “Steel Troop,” “Hidden Eye,” “Tralala Wanderers,” and “Mystery Music Show: Masked Singer.”

Aside from entertainment, Kim has also made a mark in sports broadcasting. Recently, he signed an exclusive contract as a sportscaster with MBC, making a noteworthy return to his “home” network after 17 years.
