Kim Jong-kook Misses the Point; It’s Not About His Wife’s Privacy – “I’ve Been Misunderstood, It’s Unfair”

[Sports Chosun Reporter Baek Ji-eun] Singer Kim Jong-kook expressed his frustration regarding the private situation of his honeymoon video, but his complaints seem to have missed the point, resulting in growing dissatisfaction.

On the 16th, Kim Jong-kook uploaded a video titled “This is not SM Town (Feat. Yunho, Chanyeol, Yuri, Suho, Maseongho)” on his channel. In the video, he explained that taking down the previous video couldn’t be justified in a short notice. He stated that the decision to remove the video was discussed because there was an absurd article about obscuring the silhouette of an unrecognizable form in the video, which spread as if it were true even though it was not logical.

He continued, “Sometimes in life, things get unexpectedly tangled or unfair. There are many distorted stories about the wedding, which are upsetting and unfortunate, but I think they are partly my fault for giving grounds to such talks. Even so, I’ll keep striving to live diligently. As people have been watching me for a long time, I’m not that crazy.”

On the 9th, Kim Jong-kook publicly shared a video of his honeymoon in Paris, France. The video became a hot topic when his wife’s silhouette was briefly reflected in a window while he introduced the hotel’s amenities. He then switched the video to private without any explanation, which led to speculation that it was to hide his wife’s silhouette. Kim Jong-kook made a statement regarding these views.

However, netizens’ backlash was not because Kim Jong-kook thoroughly hid his wife. He had already clarified that keeping the marriage private was due to his wife’s wishes, and since she is not a celebrity, there is no reason to disclose her personal information.

The discomfort arises from Kim Jong-kook’s actions of having a meticulously secretive wedding and then using marriage-related content for attention on various shows and his personal channel. He limited the number of guests to 50 from each side, totaling 100, and kept the wedding venue secret from them until the day before the wedding. According to “Running Man” members, he even physically signaled them to remain silent during his entrance. Given this secretive approach to the wedding, it would have been more appropriate to keep details of their newlywed life private afterward as well.

If he dislikes the attention, he could simply refrain from talking about it, yet Kim Jong-kook continues to discuss his wife and newlywed life on shows like SBS’s “Running Man,” “My Little Old Boy,” and KBS2’s “Problem Child in House,” and even shares details from guest invitations to the honeymoon on his channel, earning viewership revenue. This hypocritical behavior is the reason for netizens’ dissatisfaction, not whether he makes his wife public or private.

Despite this, Kim Jong-kook has expressed his anger and frustration over the misunderstandings. While his feelings are understandable, not many people are siding with him.
