[OSEN=Kang Seo-jeong] Comedian Lee Su-ji recently met actress Kim Go-eun, whom she has impersonated for a long time, and knelt to apologize.
Lee Su-ji appeared on tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block” on the 23rd and shared behind-the-scenes stories about meeting Kim Go-eun at the “60th Baeksang Arts Awards” in May.
She explained, “Because of the program ‘SNL,’ I have to present different characters every week. If someone has monolids and a round face, regardless of gender, it gets assigned to me. Watching videos 30 to 40 times before going on set helps increase the synchronization.”
Recalling her meeting with Kim Go-eun at the awards, Lee Su-ji said, “I met her in the restroom before going on air. I thought I’d feel very sorry when I met her,” and added, “As soon as we saw each other in the restroom, I knelt down. But Go-eun also knelt with me and told me it was okay and to continue. So at that moment, I felt it was okay to show her what was written on my back.”
Lee Su-ji, often referred to as the “person with a thousand faces” for her exceptional ability to embody various characters, is known for her perfect impersonations that leave audiences in awe. She is particularly known for her impressions of Psy and Kim Go-eun, earning nicknames like “Female Psy” and “1-Second Kim Go-eun.”
During previous broadcasts, Lee Su-ji entertained viewers by impeccably mimicking Psy’s songs and dance moves, even down to the visuals, without fear of looking silly.
Her portrayal of the “1-Second Kim Go-eun” has continued to be a delightful comedic piece for audiences. When the drama “Goblin” aired, Lee Su-ji transformed into Kim Go-eun’s character, Ji Eun-tak, capturing her distinct wink and lines like “Mister, I love you,” showcasing a high level of similarity.
In May, at the “60th Baeksang Arts Awards,” Lee Su-ji finally met Kim Go-eun. It was their first face-to-face encounter. Lee Su-ji presented flowers to Lee Do-hyun and Kim Go-eun after imitating Kim’s role from the movie “Hero.”
Notably, she revealed a message on her back to Kim Go-eun which read, “Let’s have a meal together. I’ll explain everything.” To which Kim Go-eun responded with warmth, saying, “I’m very happy and grateful. I hope you continue to parody me. I would like to have a meal with you sometime.”
Kim Go-eun has expressed satisfaction with Lee Su-ji’s impersonations multiple times. On a YouTube show, she commented on Lee’s performance, saying, “I really like it. Doesn’t she act so well? I hope Ms. Su-ji continues to impersonate me until she gets tired of it.”
During an interview for the movie “Hero,” Kim added, “I love the impersonations. I consider it an honor that she has impersonated me for years. I am personally a fan, too.”
Having impersonated Kim Go-eun since the 2016 airing of “Goblin,” Lee Su-ji’s meeting with Kim has heightened anticipation for how her parodies of Kim Go-eun will evolve, especially now that Kim has personally expressed her gratitude. /[email protected]
