In an interview with Sports Chosun, actress Gong Seung-yeon was acknowledged by her younger sister, TWICE’s Jeongyeon, for her support during difficult times. On the May 13th episode of tvN’s ‘You Quiz on the Block,’ a preview was shown featuring Gong Seung-yeon, where she humorously expressed pride in appearing on the show before TWICE did.
During the show, Jeongyeon shared her gratitude towards her sister, becoming emotional as she recounted a particularly challenging period when she was dealing with mental health issues. She described how Gong Seung-yeon took care of her, holding her hand and taking her to the hospital when she needed help. Jeongyeon, who had been dealing with health issues like Cushing’s Syndrome, which arose as a side effect of steroid treatment for a herniated disc, had to pause her activities multiple times but has since recovered and resumed her career.
Gong Seung-yeon also faced her own challenges, having spent seven years as a trainee at SM Entertainment without debuting, which led her to leave the company. She recounted the times of uncertainty and her mother’s wish that she would be successful to help support her siblings. Now, after enduring a long period away from the limelight, she has gained significant popularity through her role in ’21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife,’ marking a peak in her career 15 years after her debut. The series has been a hit, capturing a top viewership rating of 13.3%. Pursuing further success, Gong Seung-yeon expressed her aspirations with humor, stating her desire to ‘board the train of IU and Byun Woo-seok,’ sharing a moment of laughter.
