3-Year-Old Child’s Death, Wife in Vegetative State… Found Smile Again 4 Months Later (‘Marriage Hell’)

[Tearful Past Turned into Smiles After Four Months: ‘Marriage Hell’ Update]

According to TV Report journalist Nam Geum-ju, the public’s attention was drawn to one of the ‘six couples’ from the show ‘Marriage Hell’ due to their deeply moving story. On the August 18th broadcast of MBC’s ‘Oh Eun-young Report-Marriage Hell,’ an update was provided on their lives.

In the episode, the husband’s emotional journey from appearing alone for the first time on ‘Marriage Hell’ was shared. At that time, he revealed that out of their four children, their third child had died of a brain hemorrhage after multiple surgeries due to Moyamoya disease. A year after diagnosis, the child passed away.

The wife also suffered from the same disease, resulting in a vegetative state diagnosis. Her husband took care of her at home for three and a half years after spending a year and a half in the hospital. While juggling work, raising three children, and providing detailed care for his wife, he barely got any rest due to his wife’s frequent awakenings at night. Dr. Oh Eun-young advised that physical and time limitations are inevitable, and it’s not about love.

The husband’s wish was to know whether his wife would be thankful or resentful, if she wanted him to continue caring or to let her go, and he expressed these feelings tearfully. Dr. Oh reassured him that his dedication was not a burden to his wife, leading to an emotional outburst from him.

Four months later, the family experienced significant changes. The husband created an SNS account to share their daily life, aiming to provide hope to those struggling and seeking comfort. He embraced the advice to “be happy,” stating it was only then he realized for the first time that family happiness starts with personal well-being.

One small step towards change included shaving his head by himself, while his eldest son supported his YouTube content efforts despite finding them somewhat childish.

Messages poured in from his wife’s college friends, including a notable one from Ha Won-mi, wife of baseball player Choo Shin-soo, urging her to recover soon.

Family meals became more relaxed as the children began to open up about their feelings, no longer burdened by sorrow. The eldest son noted a renewed sense of hope and motivation, appreciating the change post-filming.

Conversations with a counseling teacher allowed the children to share previously unspoken concerns, leading the husband to express gratitude to ‘Marriage Hell’ for breathing new life into their family.
