SK Innovation utilizes the “1% Happiness Sharing Fund” worth 100 million won, created from employee salaries.
SK Innovation announced on the 8th that it held a house dedication ceremony on the 7th after completing construction of a residence in Seosan, Chungnam, where descendants of independence activist Heo Kyung reside.
Heo Kyung was arrested by the Japanese in 1937 while working to establish an ideological foundation for Korean independence in Hongseong. He devoted his life to the country, even selling his assets to fund independence activities, and was awarded the Presidential Commendation for Independence Merit in 2018.
The project was initiated when an SK Innovation employee posted on the company’s bulletin board, leading to comments from other employees wanting to commemorate the 80th anniversary of liberation.
SK Innovation plans to continue this project, improving the residential environment of four descendants of independence activists by the end of the year in Daejeon and Jeungpyeong, Chungbuk.
The total project budget of 100 million won is drawn from the “1% Happiness Sharing Fund,” which employees contribute 1% of their salaries to.
This initiative is expanding its reach to support not only descendants of independence activists but also war veterans, police officers, and firefighters who served the nation.
An Joon-hyun, head of SK Innovation’s Communications Department, stated, “SK Innovation will continue diverse social contribution activities for the community.”
