Chey Tae-won, the chairman of SK Group, known for emerging as a global key player in the AI era through the production of high-bandwidth memory (HBM), is drawing industry attention on whether he will meet again with Jensen Huang, the CEO of NVIDIA. Chey will attend CES 2025 with key executives from major affiliates, including Kwak No-jung, the president of SK Hynix, and Yoo Young-sang, the president of SK Telecom. The global AI industry is focusing on the movements of Jensen Huang, who will be a keynote speaker, and Chey Tae-won at this CES.
SK Hynix’s HBM is critical memory semiconductor for NVIDIA’s AI accelerators, and within the AI semiconductor ecosystem, SK Hynix has formed a triangular alliance with NVIDIA and Taiwan’s TSMC (a semiconductor foundry company). Last April, Chairman Chey visited the NVIDIA headquarters and met with CEO Huang, demonstrating the strong cooperative relationship between the two companies to the world.
At the SK AI Summit held last November, it was revealed that “CEO Jensen Huang requested to advance the supply schedule of the sixth-generation HBM4 by six months.” An SK Group representative stated, “Although the schedules have not been finalized, the possibility of communication and meetings between the two sides is always open.”
At this CES, SK Group plans to showcase a variety of new AI services and technologies. SK Hynix will present its HBM3E, the most advanced and largest-capacity HBM currently available, featuring 16-layer DRAM memory stacking for the first time. Four companies (SK Telecom, SK Hynix, SKC, and SK Enmove) have set up a joint exhibition under the theme of “Creating a sustainable future through innovative AI technology.” SK Telecom will unveil its new AI assistant, “Aester,” aimed at penetrating the North American market, ahead of its release this year.
