“Mackerel and other holiday essentials up to 50% off… Highway tolls waived.”

Deputy Prime Minister Koo Yun-chul presented the ‘Lunar New Year Livelihood Stabilization Measures’ to President Lee Jae-myung, which includes supporting discounts of up to 50% on essential holiday items like mackerel. New allocation tariffs will be applied to imported fruits and fish that have seen price increases, and highway tolls will be waived during the holiday period. The government plans to supply 39.3 trillion won in holiday funds to small businesses and small merchants, and loan guarantees will be increased to 58 trillion won. Additionally, 50 billion won will be prepared to support traditional market merchants in purchasing essential holiday goods, and 1.1 trillion won in funds will be supplied to help vulnerable low-income groups before the Lunar New Year. The payment of emergency aid, typically distributed on the 20th, will be advanced to the 13th, totaling 1.6 trillion won. The government also aims to boost domestic demand during the five-day holiday, including providing up to an additional 50,000 won per worker to encourage tourism spending. Lastly, regional gift certificates will be issued at a total value of 4 trillion won by February, with an increase in discount rates and purchase limits.
