LG Energy Solution and Samsung SDI Achieve Triumph with Battery Technology at ‘CES 2026’ Innovation Awards

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Han Ji-eun – LG Energy Solution and Samsung SDI have been recognized for their battery technology prowess ahead of CES 2026, the world’s largest electronics and IT exhibition held in Las Vegas next January, and have received innovation awards.

LG Energy Solution announced on the 5th (local time) that it received the Innovation Award (Honoree) in the Advanced Mobility category at CES 2026, selected by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA).

The award-winning work is the “Better.Re (Battery Solution)” which was developed based on LG Energy Solution’s self-developed battery life prediction algorithm, 1.2 billion kilometers of real driving data, and various driving operation information to enhance battery life.

The solution is divided into “customer-guided,” which optimizes battery performance through improving driver habits, and “controlled,” which proactively manages batteries that are likely to degrade faster.

Through this, it is possible to delay battery degradation and preemptively predict abnormal phenomena, increasing battery life by more than twice.

LG Energy Solution explained that this is the first time a battery company has received a CES innovation award purely for software technology.

Dalhoon Lee, LG Energy Solution BMS Development Group senior vice president, said, “This CES innovation award is the result of challenge and leap towards battery technology innovation,” adding, “We will continue to enhance customer value and strengthen battery as a service (BaaS) competitiveness through longevity management technology such as degradation prediction and safety diagnostics.”

Samsung SDI will receive the Best of Innovation award for its ultra-high power cylindrical battery technology.

The “SDI 25U-Power” is an ultra-high power 18650 cylindrical battery (diameter 18mm, height 65mm) that doubles the output to produce the same power at half the weight of existing batteries.

For the first time in 18650, the “tabless technology” (a technique that increases contact points where electrons can flow to reduce cell internal resistance) is applied to minimize resistance and effectively control heat generated during charging to achieve ultra-high power performance, ultra-fast charging, and longevity performance simultaneously.

With a high-capacity high-nickel ternary (NCA) cathode material and proprietary patented SCN anode material, the ultra-thin plate coating reduces resistance to achieve powerful output in a compact size.

Additionally, Samsung SDI’s advanced safety technology, “No TP (thermal propagation prevention),” was listed in the innovation award list in the vehicle technology and advanced mobility categories.
