**’Return for Responsible Management: Lee Jae-yong’s Comeback Necessary’ Reiterated**
Lee Chan-hee, the chairman of Samsung’s Compliance Committee, has once again stressed the necessity of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong’s return as an executive director for responsible management. Regarding the reconstruction of Samsung’s control tower, he noted, “There are various opinions within the committee and Samsung itself.”
On the morning of the 18th, ahead of the third regular meeting of the Compliance Committee at Samsung Life’s building in Seocho-gu, Seoul, Lee expressed to reporters, “Although the legal risks are not entirely resolved, it is right for Chairman Lee to fulfill responsible management until the trial results are out.”
Previously, in the foreword of the Compliance Committee’s annual report published on the 15th, Chairman Lee had conveyed a similar stance. He mentioned, “A lot of time was spent writing the foreword. I took great care with every word and sentence, knowing their importance,” and emphasized “the need for his comeback as an executive director for responsible management” in the foreword.
He also highlighted the deep deliberations taking place within the Compliance Committee. When asked if the reconstruction of the control tower could be completed by the third Compliance Committee, he responded, “Our Compliance Committee is profoundly contemplating. I wonder if you have considered it as much as we have.”
Regarding the issue of reconstructing Samsung’s control tower, Chairman Lee adopted a cautious stance. He stated, “There are diverse opinions both internally and externally. Personally, I can say that the reconstruction of the control tower is necessary, but there are various opinions within the committee and within Samsung.”
As for whether the reconstruction of the control tower, identified as an important task for the third Compliance Committee, would be completed during its term, he avoided a definitive answer by emphasizing the existence of various perspectives.
When questioned about recent meetings with Chairman Lee Jae-yong, he briefly replied, “There are more important matters,” and added, “Samsung’s compliance monitoring system is fairly well established and I believe it’s being operated exemplary. The chairman also has important priorities to address first.”
