In the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking, South Korea fell to 27th place, dropping 7 spots compared to the previous year.

According to the Financial News, South Korea ranked 27th out of 69 countries in the 2025 World Competitiveness Rankings published by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Switzerland. This marks a drop of seven places compared to the previous year.

In a written briefing on the 17th, Presidential Office Spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung stated, “This is closely related to the negative impact on national competitiveness resulting from poor performance last year and the political and economic uncertainties that led to a civil strife situation.”

President Lee Jae-myung, since his candidacy, has emphasized the need for genuine growth to enhance growth potential. Accordingly, the Lee administration plans to materialize and implement a vision for genuine growth to restore national competitiveness.

Spokesperson Kang explained, “The Lee administration will systematically respond at a pan-ministerial level to enhance national competitiveness and international credibility, by, among other measures, revitalizing the operation of the National Competitiveness Policy Council under the Ministry of Economy and Finance.”
