The ‘2024 Korea Sale Festa (Kosefe),’ the nation’s largest shopping event, will be held from the 9th to the 30th, spanning a total of 22 days.
According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy on the 1st, this year’s Kosefe has the largest participation ever, with more than 2,600 companies in distribution, manufacturing, and services. These companies aim to revive the sluggish consumer sentiment by offering high discounts on items such as daily necessities (food, fashion apparel, household goods), durable consumer goods (automobiles, home appliances, tires), and culture/leisure (accommodations, amusement parks, educational materials, dining, cinemas).
The government stated, “To ensure that the export success leads to the activation of the domestic economy, we will expand discounts focusing on durable consumer goods with strong export trends, such as automobiles and home appliances, and also offer discounts in the culture and leisure sectors.”
Online and offline distribution companies have been organizing large-scale discount events this month to respond to overseas discount events like Singles’ Day and Black Friday. Notable examples include Shinsegae’s ‘SSG Day’ (November 1-10), Lotte’s ‘Thank You Fest’ (October 31-November 13), and Super L Day (October 28-November 6).
Large supermarkets and medium-sized stores are focusing on selling seasonal fruits, vegetables, and winter season products at discounts, and are particularly discounting ingredients for kimchi preparation in time for the kimchi-making season.
In addition to the winter sale starting on the 15th, department stores are preparing various events such as reward events, special deals at popular food sections, pop-up stores, and cultural events.
Online platforms like SSG.com, Gmarket, Lotte Shopping e-commerce, 11st, Coupang, Naver, Hmall, Gongyoung shopping mall, Today’s House, Market Kurly, and Baedal Minjok will support additional discounts on the products they sell.
The automotive and home appliance industries have prepared more car models and items with higher discounts than last year, aligning with the expectations of consumers waiting for Kosefe to make purchases.
Hyundai has expanded its discounted car models to 24, including Sonata (up to 2 million won), Santa Fe (up to 2 million won), Porter EV (up to 5 million won), Kona EV (up to 4 million won), and Pavise (up to 10 million won).
Kia also increased its discounted car models to eight, with new models for discounts this year including Niro HEV (up to 3%) and K8 HEV (up to 7%).
GM Korea will sell its main models, including Traverse and Tahoe, at a maximum discount of 15%, higher than last year. Renault Korea and KG Mobility are also participating in the Kosefe discounts.
Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are offering discounts on 15 and 12 items respectively. Samsung Electronics is providing up to 5.59 million points for accumulated purchases, and LG Electronics is offering up to 5.2 million cashback.
In the culture and leisure sector, in addition to the participation of the three major movie theaters – CGV, Megabox, Lotte Cinema – last year, this year, new participants include the accommodation industry such as Hanwha Resort and Daemyung Sono Felice, and amusement parks like Lotte World, and the educational materials industry.
Convenience stores are also ready with discounts such as ‘1+1’ and ‘2+1’ offers. Five convenience store companies (CU, GS25, 7-Eleven, E-Mart 24, CSPACE24) have launched the ‘Kosefe National Representative Lunch Box,’ an affordable product priced between 4,000 and 6,000 won.
The opening ceremony of Kosefe will be a street event held on the 8th in Myeong-dong. The participating companies and discount details (items, discount rates, promotional events) can be found on the official Kosefe website (koreasalefesta.co.kr).
