According to the Corporate Data Research Institute CEO Score, among the top 500 companies in South Korea, 342 that had submitted their quarterly reports by the previous day showed that their operating profit for the first quarter increased by 17.1% to 60.9628 trillion won, compared to 52.0734 trillion won in the same period last year.
The sales of these companies for the first quarter were 814.6025 trillion won, a 3.8% increase from 784.7882 trillion won in the same period last year.
Individually, SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics showed significant operating profit figures. SK Hynix’s operating profit for the first quarter increased by 4.5545 trillion won from 2.8860 trillion won the previous year to 7.4405 trillion won. Samsung Electronics was second with 6.6853 trillion won.
Following them were Korea Electric Power Corporation (3.7536 trillion won), Hyundai Motor (3.6336 trillion won), Kia (3.0086 trillion won), Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (1.2839 trillion won), LG Electronics (1.2591 trillion won), Hanwha (1.0726 trillion won), Korea Gas Corporation (8339 billion won), and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance (7924 billion won) in terms of operating profit.
SK Hynix also showed the largest increase in operating profit in monetary terms compared to the previous year. Other companies with significant increases included KEPCO (up by 2.4543 trillion won), KHNP (up by 1.5635 trillion won), Hanwha (up by 8368 billion won), Hanwha Aerospace (up by 5233 billion won), LG Display (up by 5029 billion won), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (up by 4124 billion won), Samsung Biologics (up by 2654 billion won), Hanwha Solutions (up by 2469 billion won), and Hyundai Mobis (up by 2340 billion won).
However, among the surveyed companies, Samsung SDI recorded the largest operating loss in the first quarter, with a loss of 4341 billion won, followed by L&F (-1403 billion won), Lotte Chemical (-1266 billion won), SK Energy (-1261 billion won), HD Hyundai Chemical (-1188 billion won), Hanwha TotalEnergies (-1171 billion won), SK Geocentric (-949 billion won), among others.
