On the 4th (local time), Samsung Electronics Vice President Kim Chul-ki, head of the DA Business Division, delivered a keynote speech at a Samsung press conference held a day before the opening of Europe’s largest home appliance exhibition ‘IFA 2025’ at ‘Messe Berlin’ in Berlin, Germany. Vice President Kim announced plans to spread one billion Samsung AI devices to homes worldwide within the next three years.
At a press conference on the same day, Vice President Kim emphasized the concept of ‘Ambient AI,’ which naturally integrates into daily life, and unveiled a blueprint for an ‘AI Home’ that encompasses appliances, TVs, and mobile devices. Ambient AI refers to AI that actively suggests and executes services based on situations in the user’s daily life without explicit commands. It adjusts temperature, lighting, and sound in response to the user’s surrounding environment and behavior patterns.
In the ‘AI Home’ based on Ambient AI, Vice President Kim highlighted four core experiences: convenience, health and safety, time and energy efficiency, and security. For instance, the ‘Now Brief’ feature on Galaxy smartphones offers the convenience of automatically adjusting lighting and air conditioning based on the weather, schedule, and lifestyle habits. The ‘Family Care’ feature in the SmartThings IoT platform analyzes the appliance and smartphone usage patterns of elderly parents to notify children not living with them of any unusual signs, providing health and safety value. With SmartThings integration, users can reduce energy usage by up to 70% for washing machines, 30% for air conditioners, and 15% for refrigerators. Furthermore, the security platform ‘Knox’ applied to AI Home ensures safe device usage.
Vice President Kim stated plans to reinforce Samsung’s AI home leadership by distributing one billion AI devices within three years. This aligns with the announcement by Samsung Electronics DX Division Acting Head (President) Roh Tae-moon at the ‘Galaxy Unpacked’ event in New York last July to install AI in 400 million Galaxy devices by the end of the year. Samsung, which has primarily focused on mobile, intends to accelerate the implementation of AI Home by expanding its AI ecosystem to home appliances like refrigerators and washing machines.
Samsung Electronics showcases an AI Home connecting bespoke AI in appliances, vision AI in display products, and Galaxy AI in mobile. Notably, new appliance products equipped with bespoke AI are revealed in large numbers. The ‘Bespoke AI Steam’ robot vacuum comes equipped with an ‘RGB camera’ and ‘IR LED sensor’ to detect even colorless and transparent liquids on the floor. It minimizes blind spots with its ‘pop-out combo feature,’ which extends brushes and mop when detecting corners or walls. The ‘Bespoke AI Combo’ washer-dryer and the ‘Bespoke AI Hybrid’ refrigerator enhance performance and energy efficiency using AI.
The personalized AI assistant ‘Vision AI Companion’ installed in TVs visually presents necessary information based on users’ questions and interests. ‘Galaxy AI’ in mobile devices closely connects with TVs, aiding the expansion of the AI Home ecosystem. Samsung also plans to extend AI Home experiences from B2C (business-to-consumer) to B2B (business-to-business) areas. The newly revealed ‘SmartThings Pro’ provides solutions for integrated energy management and remote facility monitoring across various spaces, including stores, residences, and industrial sites.
Vice President Kim concluded, “We are making AI Homes, capable of understanding and adjusting to users themselves, a reality,” and “The Samsung AI Home experience will become part of consumers’ daily lives at an unprecedented pace.”
