“Existing posts create blind spots… Strengthening security measures”
“Ansan City has taken measures to strengthen security by setting up a post opposite the new residence of child sex offender Cho Doo-soon (71),” reports indicate.
According to Ansan City, Cho moved into a multi-family residence in Wa-dong, Danwon-gu, Ansan, at the end of last month after his previous housing contract expired. On November 4, the city entered into a rental contract for a space directly opposite Cho’s new residence.
The rental positioned by the city allows a view of Cho’s residence directly through its windows. Although the police post was relocated, there could still be blind spots in the alley, which is why the city decided on this measure. An Ansan City official told Kukmin Ilbo, “We signed a yearly rental contract for 320,000 won per month,” explaining that the narrow alley made it difficult to ensure safety with the existing (citizen safety) container post.
Ansan City’s special security police have been patrolling and keeping a 24-hour watch around Cho’s home in shifts of two or three officers. Additionally, CCTV and citizen safety container posts from his previous neighborhood have been moved closer to his new residence.
The police have stationed two officers at Cho’s new location, while a mobile patrol team is enhancing surveillance in the area. The Ministry of Justice is operating a dedicated management system with assigned personnel.
Before Cho’s move, field workers, including police and other personnel, faced difficulties avoiding extreme weather conditions and lacked proper facilities. Previously, they relied on a nearby senior center for restroom needs. The newly rented space not only bolsters security but also improves working conditions for the on-site personnel.
Meanwhile, after being released from prison in December 2020, Cho moved from his former residence to a nearby multi-family house on October 25, about 2 kilometers away. Since moving, it’s reported that Cho has remained secluded, not venturing outside.
