On this day, the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Election Commission was bustling with campaign staff eager to register their candidates as number one from early in the morning.
At 9 a.m., candidates Kang Sam-young, Shin Kyung-ho, and Choi Kwang-ik submitted their application forms and related documents to the election commission in order.
Candidate Kang expressed his thoughts on registering, saying, “Elections are a festival of democracy, and I hope all voters participate joyfully. I am not running for superintendent to make pledges but to fulfill those pledges.”
Candidate Shin stated, “With 20 days left until the election, I promise to approach the citizens of Gangwon with utmost dedication and to firmly establish Gangwon education,” adding, “Having spent 38 years and 4 months nurturing children’s dreams and talents in schools, I am committed to taking responsibility for the students’ future.”
Candidate Choi pledged, “I will tour various places in the province with the developed policy, consult with residents, and work towards its realization,” believing that “this policy will become a turning point that revitalizes Gangwon education, and I will persist steadfastly.”
Preliminary candidate Park Hyun-sook is expected to register as a main candidate on the 15th.
Meanwhile, in front of the election commission that morning, civil groups opposing Shin Kyung-ho’s candidacy due to legal risks and various allegations held a protest, while supporting groups also held gatherings.
