[Financial News] The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission disclosed that although there are some investigation delays due to manpower shortages, there is no risk of a weak investigation, such as missing the statute of limitations.

In a regular briefing held at the Gwacheon Government Complex on the morning of the 5th, a commission official was asked about any visible progress in the investigation of the “external pressure on the Chae Sang-byeong death case” and provided the same answer.

Regarding the investigation of the Chae Sang-byeong case, the commission official stated, “The team consists of approximately 20 personnel, including prosecutors,” and explained that “a significant portion of the commission’s resources must focus on the investigation of the Marine Corps personnel.” The official added, “The message inherent in the personnel moves will speak for itself,” and acknowledged that the manpower shortage “cannot be said to have no impact.”

Following the resignation of Senior Prosecutor Park Seok-il, Lee Dae-hwan, who was in charge of the Chae Sang-byeong case in the Investigation Unit 4, was transferred to the vacant position of head of Investigation Unit 3. Along with the transfer of Chief Prosecutor Lee, the major cases being investigated by Investigation Unit 4 have also been moved to Investigation Unit 3.

Meanwhile, regarding the ‘Kim Geon-hee’s Nomination Interference Allegation’ being handled by Investigation Unit 3, the commission stated, “We are monitoring the prosecution’s investigation status and continuously conducting legal reviews to determine our possible actions.” This suggests they will decide on whether to conduct a full-scale investigation after observing the progress of the ongoing investigation by Changwon District Prosecutor’s Office.

In relation to new personnel recruitment, the official answered, “We are in the document submission stage,” and estimated that “it will take some time until the final hiring.”
