Corporation With Maximum 1.7 Billion Won, Individual 850 Million Won… “Thorough Investigation of Asset Concealment and Tax Evasion, Strong Response”
A list of major and habitual defaulters (587 individuals) who have failed to pay over 10 million won in local taxes and local administrative penalties for more than a year has been disclosed.
As of the 19th, according to Incheon Metropolitan City, the disclosed list includes 528 defaulters of local taxes (434 individuals and 94 corporations) and 59 defaulters of local administrative penalties (42 individuals and 17 corporations).
The total default amount reaches 30.2 billion won, consisting of 25.2 billion won in local taxes (17.8 billion won by individuals and 7.4 billion won by corporations) and 5 billion won in local administrative sanctions and penalties (1.9 billion won by individuals and 3.1 billion won by corporations).
Local taxes include those levied by local governments such as acquisition, property, and local income tax. Local administrative sanctions and penalties include fines, enforcement charges, reparations for illegality, and specific public interest charges.
The city sent advance notices to 804 individuals in March under ‘Local Tax Collection Act Article 11’ and ‘Enforcement of Local Administrative Sanctions and Penalties Act Article 7-3’ and provided a period for explanations. Individuals whose names are disclosed are those who failed to provide explanatory materials or pay their default amounts.
The corporation with the highest local tax default is a construction company (A Corporation) located in Gyeyang District, defaulting on 6.5 billion won in 65 cases, including resident tax (corporate portion). The individual with the highest default is Mr. B from Gyeyang District, who failed to pay 858 million won in one case of resident tax (aggregate income tax).
The corporation with the highest default in local administrative sanctions and penalties is C Corporation in Jung District, defaulting on 557 million won in one case of compensation for the unauthorized occupation of public property. The individual with the highest default is Mr. D from Ongjin County, who failed to pay a total of 291 million won in two cases, including compensation for unlawful occupation of public property.
Lee Tae-san, Director of Financial Planning, stated, “We aim to establish a culture of faithful tax payment through the disclosure of major and habitual defaulters and strong default measures,” adding, “For intentional asset concealment and tax evasion, we will conduct a thorough investigation and take strong measures such as travel bans.”
The list of major defaulters can be checked on the city’s website and in the local tax information system, WITaxa. The disclosed content includes the defaulter’s name, age, address, tax items defaulted, and reasons for the default.
