Songpa District to Hold ‘2025 Lake Cherry Blossom Festival’ from April 2nd to 6th,
Songpa District (led by District Mayor Seo Kang-seok) will hold the ‘2025 Lake Cherry Blossom Festival’ at Seokchon Lake, a representative spring flower attraction in Seoul, from April 2nd to 6th for five days. Seokchon Lake is a renowned spot in the heart of Seoul for enjoying cherry blossoms. Over the past three years, it has transformed into a complex cultural and artistic space with the expansion of cultural and artistic facilities. The combination of the lake, cherry blossoms, and various cultural arts makes Seokchon Lake in Songpa District a unique destination in Seoul. The district plans the ‘2025 Lake Cherry Blossom Festival’ not just as a cherry blossom outing but as a festival to enjoy culture and arts alongside the lake.
□ A Variety of Cultural Performances with Cherry Blossoms
On the first day of the festival, April 2nd, the ‘Cherry Blossom Opening’ event will take place. It will open with a string quartet performance by ‘Ensemble Aube’, followed by the opening declaration and a cherry blossom tree lighting ceremony. Performances by the a cappella group ‘Voicetoy’ and K-pop singers Hwang Garam and Chuu will add to the spring excitement. From April 3rd to 5th, a wide range of performances will continue at the Dongho Riverside Stage, including performances by local cultural arts groups, busking by young musicians, and a variety of stages featuring Korean traditional music, recorder performances, and choirs by students and graduates of the Korea National University of Arts. These artistic performances, set against the backdrop of cherry blossoms, will provide visitors with a special experience every day from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. On the last day of the festival, April 6th, the ‘Cherry Blossom Full Bloom Concert’ will be held, featuring performances by popera group ‘Volare’, retro-music group ‘Gold Sisters’, and B-boy performance team ‘CPI Crew’. The festival will conclude with a soothing performance by K-pop singer ‘ALi’.
□ Seokchon Lake Reborn as a Cultural and Artistic Space
The highlight of the festival is undoubtedly the cultural and artistic experience with cherry blossoms. During the festival, cultural and artistic facilities at Seokchon Lake will host a variety of programs. The district-run ‘The Gallery Lake’ will feature an exhibition by world-renowned pop artist Philip Colbert titled ‘A Journey to Lobster Planet’, showcasing works inspired by his deep inspiration from Seokchon Lake. ‘Seoul Nori Madang’ will host Cherry Blossom Fashion Week, and the ‘Lake Bridge Gallery’ newly created under Jamsu Bridge will present media art. ‘Cultural Experiment Space Lake’ will offer an experiential cultural art program titled ‘2025 Lake and Spring’.
□ A Special Cherry Blossom Path with Night Views
The district has installed landscape lighting along the entire 2.6 km walking path around Seokchon Lake, allowing visitors to fully appreciate the beauty of cherry blossoms even at night. The white lights shining over the cherry blossoms create a flower light tunnel, with colorful cherry blossom gates, neon photo zones, and interactive photo zones installed along the walking path to provide visitors with special memories. Despite possible variations in cherry blossom blooming periods, the district plans to proceed with the festival as scheduled, honoring its promise to the residents. Coordination with related agencies such as the police and fire departments will mobilize 200 professional safety management personnel, with volunteers positioned around walking paths and performance venues to ensure a safe festival with one-way traffic and other safety measures. Seo Kang-seok, the mayor of Songpa District, stated, “Seokchon Lake has now established itself as a complex space blending cherry blossom scenes with cultural arts,” expressing hope that visitors will create special memories at Songpa’s ‘Lake Cherry Blossom Festival’, where they can simultaneously experience the romance of the lake and diverse cultural arts this spring.”
