The second comprehensive special investigation team has launched a full-scale compulsory investigation into the police over allegations that the police did not properly investigate intelligence about Unification Church President Han Hwak-ja’s overseas gambling. On the 20th, the team began a search and seizure of the National Police Agency, Gangwon Police Agency, and Chuncheon Police Station. Previously, in the Kim Geon-hee special investigation, charges were filed against lawmaker Kwon Seong-dong and the president for exchanging police intelligence, but the investigation into the police’s misconduct was not completed.
The special investigation team believes this case falls under Article 13 of the Special Investigation Law as it pertains to the “allegations of investigation cover-up involving former President Yoon Seok-yeol and Kim Geon-hee” and thus can be investigated.
The image accompanying the text shows a briefing by Deputy Special Prosecutor Kim Ji-mi from the second comprehensive special investigation team at their office in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province on the 23rd. The special team on that day launched a compulsory investigation into the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office and the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office related to the “Doichi Motors investigation cover-up allegations.”
