A man in his 40s has been arrested by the police for using counterfeit money and committing theft. The Gwangju Seobu Police Station announced today (10th) that they have arrested Mr. A, a man in his 40s, on charges of obtaining and using counterfeit currency, fraud, and theft.

Mr. A is accused of using or attempting to use counterfeit 50,000 won bills at three locations, including convenience stores in the Pungam-dong area of Seo-gu, Gwangju, from the 6th of last month to the 4th of this month.

Mr. A allegedly obtained a total of 45,500 won by purchasing small items and receiving change. Having recently been released after serving time for special theft, Mr. A reportedly purchased 25 counterfeit 50,000 won bills for 100,000 won in cash from Mr. B, another man in his 40s whom he met in prison.

Furthermore, Mr. A attempted to exchange the counterfeit 50,000 won bills for five 10,000 won bills at a market in Pungam-dong where he had worked as a day laborer and stole essential goods, including water and food, worth approximately 2 million won.

It has been discovered that the counterfeit money used by Mr. A is readily available online. The police received a report about the counterfeit bills lacking holograms and featuring “Shin Saimdang smiling.” They apprehended Mr. A on the 4th in Pungam-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju.

The police are currently pursuing Mr. B, who sold the counterfeit money to Mr. A.
