[Herald Economy, by Yongkyung Lee] In response to the large-scale personal information leak caused by a USIM hacking incident involving SK Telecom, the police have formed an official investigation team to commence a full-scale investigation.
On the 30th, the Cyber Investigation Division of the Seoul Police Agency announced that they have transitioned from a preliminary inquiry to a formal investigation regarding the SKT USIM information hacking incident.
The Seoul Police Agency expanded its dedicated investigation team to a total of 22 members under the leadership of the Cyber Investigation Division Chief and has started in-depth investigations. They are currently securing digital evidence related to the hacking incident and have activated domestic and international cooperative systems to trace the hacking’s origins and those responsible, including detecting any malicious code intrusions.
A police official stated, “Given the significant public interest and concern surrounding this case, we plan to conduct a systematic and focused investigation centered around cybercrime specialists.”
