Shin Young-dae, regarding the prosecution’s request for an arrest warrant: “An investigation attempting to cover up the Kim Geon-hee and Myung Tae-kyun gate.”

Rep. Shin Young-dae of the Democratic Party of Korea held a press conference at the National Assembly on the 31st regarding the prosecution’s investigation. The prosecution has requested an arrest warrant for Rep. Shin, who represents Gunsan, Gimje, and Bukab in North Jeolla Province, on charges of corruption related to the Saemangeum solar power project and manipulating public opinion during the general election primaries. Rep. Shin has called it a “political suppression investigation to cover up the Kim Geon-hee and Myung Tae-kyun gate” and has vowed to “fight for the end of the prosecution’s reign.”

During the press conference, Rep. Shin stated that the prosecution charged him with accepting bribes related to the Saemangeum floating solar project and violating election laws by manipulating public opinion during the general election primaries. He denied these charges, stating they are unfounded.

He argued that the bribery allegations are solely based on testimony, highlighting the secrecy often involved in bribery cases and how relying solely on testimony is unreasonable. Additionally, he criticized the prosecution for detaining associates to pressure them into changing their testimonies.

Rep. Shin also mentioned that despite numerous raids and interrogations, no evidence or conclusive testimonies have been found concerning the alleged election law violations. He noted that the arrest warrant was requested immediately after he had been called in for questioning, suggesting that the outcome seemed predetermined.

He rebuked these prosecutorial actions as a means to divert attention from other scandals, namely the Kim Geon-hee and Myung Tae-kyun gate, and pledged to continue fighting to clear his name and end the current prosecutorial regime.
