Shin Kyung-ho, the Superintendent of Education for Gangwon Province, Collides with the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union at a School Site… Hospitalized after Fainting

“Shin Kyung-ho, the Superintendent of Education for Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, reportedly fainted and was hospitalized following a confrontation during a school visit,” it was reported. According to the provincial education office, Superintendent Shin visited Yangyang High School at 7:30 PM on the 31st to encourage students preparing for the college entrance exam. Upon leaving, he faced protests from members of the Gangwon branch of the Korea Teachers and Education Workers Union.

During this incident, Superintendent Shin fell amidst the commotion with union members and staff, resulting in him being transported by ambulance and admitted to Sokcho Medical Center. The education office claimed, “Union members staged a forceful protest, and Superintendent Shin, injured in the head and tailbone, lost consciousness for about five minutes.”

However, the Gangwon branch of the Korea Teachers and Education Workers Union denied this version of events. Policy Director Jo Yeong-guk stated, “An education office executive pushed Superintendent Shin, causing several union members to fall with him,” and added, “Three union members were injured and are receiving hospital treatment.”

The education office is currently assessing the situation and is considering actions, including legal charges against the union members present at the scene. Meanwhile, the union plans to file a charge of negligence causing injury against the education office executive.
