Samcheok City selected as the site for a hydrogen metering reliability center in Sanjaeboo.

Kangwon-do Samcheok City has been finally selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s public offering for establishing a hydrogen measurement reliability center. As a result, the city will establish the hydrogen measurement reliability center in cooperation with Kangwon-do, the organizing institutions such as Korea Testing Laboratory for Mechanical and Electrical Equipment, Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science, Korea Measurement Association, and Korea Industrial Technology Testing Institute.

The center will be built with a total budget of 19 billion won on a 3,300 square meter site within the Dongmak-ri Hydrogen Specialized Industrial Complex, occupying an area of 1,200 square meters. Seven types of hydrogen measurement error verification testing equipment will be installed in this facility.

The goal of this project is research and development to maintain the trading order of hydrogen. From this year until 2028, the project aims to establish testing equipment to verify measurement errors that occur throughout the entire cycle of hydrogen distribution, including production, storage, transportation, and utilization. It will secure a system for the institutionalization and legalization of measurements.

The city expects an annual revenue of 1.3 billion won through formal approval and testing of hydrogen vehicle chargers, as well as flowmeter calibration tests. Additionally, by recruiting operational staff for the center and hosting visits from relevant organizations for verification and testing in Samcheok City, they anticipate boosting the local economy.

A Samcheok city official stated, “The size of the hydrogen distribution market is expected to expand continuously in various fields such as mobility, energy, and industry,” and expressed hopes that the establishment of the first hydrogen measurement evaluation base in the country will contribute to ensuring hydrogen safety and maintaining a fair trading order.
