The prosecution has notified Myung Tae-kyun, a key figure in the suspected involvement of Kim Kun-hee in nomination processes, to appear as a suspect. According to the legal community on the 5th, the Changwon District Prosecutor’s Office, led by chief prosecutor Kim Ho-kyung, has requested that Myung appear for questioning on the 8th at 10 a.m. over allegations of violating the Political Funds Act.
Myung is accused of providing ‘customized opinion polls’ free of charge for candidate Yoon Seok-yeol during the last presidential election and, in return, securing a nomination for former lawmaker Kim Young-sun. The prosecution suspects that the 90 million won, allegedly given to Myung over 25 occasions since Kim’s election in a by-election the previous year, might have been in exchange for the nomination requests.
Myung has denied these allegations, claiming that the money transactions were merely repayment of loans and refuting any involvement in ‘nomination dealing.’ On the 3rd and the 4th, Kim Young-sun was questioned by the prosecution and denied requesting nominations when speaking to reporters.
